Happiness after almost a year!
by fade_away inthat book: "the secret of family happiness" is missing the part that teaches you to live happy with your family.
"but if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned.
but those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and i want to spare you this.".

What's the most dumbest/petty thing you've heard of someone being "stumbled" over?
by Reality79 in- some loser once took offense that i hugged a sister goodbye at a leaving do and ran back to the elders like a little child telling on me.
i was 15, this sister was in her 40s at the time.. - this elder said someone told him they saw me with a copy of the sun newspaper.
yes, this paper is known for its 'page 3' topless girls but far from pornagraphic and i wasn't even thinking along those lines.. - one brother who had a good job was 'counselled' because he was actually able to buy himself nice things including a new car (shock, horror!!

Hypocritical Elders giving talks......give examples
by drewcoul inthe thread started by someone else that was asking about "local needs" talks that are given and the people who need to hear them are never there, got me to thinking.. i remember an elder giving a talk on local needs on "praising jehovah with your valuable things.
" .......this was the same brother who everyone in the hall knew had just bought a new lincoln town car.
his wife was a regular pioneer, and he would not allow the car do be driven out in service.

I like that I no longer look down on ones sexual preferances! I love good people and don't judge based on who they are attracted to.

can somebody shed some light on me?
by psychiatric inill introduce myself.
my name is darren, im 23 and live in england.. im having some problems with the "truth".. to start it off and to keep it as minimal as possible because i dont want to bore your minds, i was raised with my whole family as a roman catholic.. after moving around the world, even as far as new zealand, i got myself in a terrible way in guernsey channel islands.
i met some old friends of mine who were into all sorts related to the "crime scene" and i got myself involved with drugs and the like.. i began a spiralling into depression and cutting my arms to feel alive.

You may be looking at your life and be giving the JW's credit for your life style change. I'm glad you are clean of drugs and having "friends" and something to put your mind in may have helped break that cycle. That being said, now that your mind is free of druggs PLEASE do all the research you can about JW's. This site is good, read Crisis of Conscience by Raymond Franze and Steve Hansens book on Releasing the bonds... I think if you could read them and this site and still believe JW's are the "truth" then you are already gone...
Best wishes and welcome

by miseryloveselders ina brother called me to ask who was delivering the talk at our hall.
i didn't know what he was talking about.

The GB tightening their grip! Straw to break a camel's back?
by punkofnice ini post on a couple of forums and read and lurk and all that stuff.. a theme that seems to be gaining momentum is about how the gb are 'tightening their grip' and 'becoming more cultish'.. i don't read the publications anymore and oddly i read extracts of them on the forums.. punk is babbling now.............sorry...................my questions are (sorry if they're a bit long.
sorry if i sound like satan: 'is it really so?
' but then i am a mentally diseased apostate).. 1. are the gb really tightening their grip or is it just the same as it ever was........but..........we just notice the propaganda more now we're out?.

"Local Needs" Talks: The people who should really hear them are never there.
by Open mind inmy whole life as a jw i've heard this refrain.
"too bad so-and-so wasn't here for that local needs talk.".
as an elder i would have a hard time putting my heart into writing up a local needs talk that was targeting one or two congregation members, knowing full well they probably wouldn't be there to hear it.. .
